I developed and posted this unscientific survey strictly out of curiosity. It was NOT reviewed by the board before it was posted, and was not approved or endorsed by the board before or after.
152 people logged into the survey during the 2 weeks it was available. This is approximately 1/3rd of the membership. Based on logged IP addresses, a few people – or at least a few people using the same computer – visited more than once but there weren’t enough of these to alter any trends. Since I only posted links to the survey in the OOPS listserv, the results can be assumed to be skewed in favor of people who read the listserv fairly regularly. There was no mechanism available to me to reach other members. I had planned to leave the survey up longer but the response rate has slowed to a trickle and to avoid being charged another month by Survey Monkey, I decided to turn it off now (9-9-2009).
One of the links below shows the responses for each question broken out by people who have been OOPS members for less than 1 year, and for 1-3 years. (I was particularly interested, when I started this, about the extent to which newer members took advantage of OOPS on-the-water trainings and trips.)
Opinions, regardless of their character, should be directed to the board members, who may have the ability to do something about them. The author does not.
